Meet Kayla.
Kayla’s addiction progressed in high school. She started skipping class to use and she became violent. Ironically, the violence she witnessed as a child now manifested itself in her own actions. When she was 18, Kayla’s family persuaded her to enter a recovery program, but she was not open to recovery at the time and left after 3 months. She turned back to drugs immediately but managed to find employment and maintain her own apartment. However, this all came crashing down one night when Kayla’s friend introduced her to crystal meth.
At first, she believed that meth was the solution to all her troubles, but unfortunately, it had a tight hold on Kayla that she couldn’t break free from. Kayla’s use of meth resulted in her experiencing drug-induced psychosis on multiple occasions. Eventually she started missing work and lost her job, which led to her also losing her apartment. She began to isolate herself and lost communication with her family. Kayla’s physical health began to deteriorate drastically as her drug use continued.
Over the years, Kayla entered through several periods of recovery and relapse, however she says each relapse was worse than the one before. At one point, Kayla remembers her mother sitting her down to say, “I’m planning your funeral, what do you want to wear?” This shook Kayla, she felt that death was close, but sadly, meth still had a firm grip on her.
Eventually, Kayla came up with a plan to end her life. She wrote her goodbye letters. A family member recognized the state of her mental health and intervened to have her admitted to the hospital one more time. While hospitalized, Kayla received a call telling her there was a spot for her at Harvest House.
Kayla entered our Women’s Recovery program immediately after leaving the hospital. It was at Harvest House that Kayla learned “there is hope beyond drugs”. She credits Harvest House with saving her life and helping her establish a relationship with God. We are thrilled to say, Kayla is currently 7 months sober! She looks forward to continuing to rebuild relationships with her family. Kayla’s passion for life is contagious, we can’t wait to see her enter the next phase of her life fully embracing her true identity in God.
